Controls that exist to manage the behaviour of newspapers such as The Daily Mail and The i.

Research and make notes on the controls that exist to manage the behaviour of newspapers such as The Daily Mail and The i.
Have a look at this:
and this
There wasn't much control over what the newspapers were publishing due to them being able to hack peoples phones, including murder victims and celebrities (Ashely Cole). They then publish what they found, like voice mails and texts. They also published Madeleine McCann's mothers diary on her feelings after her daughters disappearance. The amount of control over the behaviour needs to be controlled more but then wouldn't allow all newspapers to voice their opinions and be unique.
Consider how private individuals can correct untrue stories or protect their privacy:
Melania Trump
Due to her power and wealth Melania was able to get her lawyers to get the newspaper to pay her a settlement fee and publish an apology, saying that the accusations they made about her were untrue. She allegedly got $3 million for hurting her integrity and dignity.
Who are PLS and YMA?
They are celebrities (Elton John and his partner) who have taken The Sun to Supreme Court due to them publishing a story about the couple having a threesome with another couple. This raised the question of privacy and how far journalists will go to write a story. The judge concluded that there was no public interest in a sexual encounter.

Who are Livingstone and Lunt?
-Livingstone suggests that media audiences can be defined as either citizens or consumers.
- They argue that the way regulators police the media, they're responsible for what's determined by whether they think of audiences as citizens or consumers.
- They also argue that the quality of traditional media output has been affected by the digital revolution.

Curran and Seaton?
- The idea that media is controlled by a small number of companies primarily driven by the logic of profit and power.
- Media concentration generally limits or inhibits variety, creativity and quality.
- More socially diverse patterns of ownership help to create the conditions for more varied and adventurous media productions.
